Program on Women’s Urinary Incontinence at the HealthPlex April 11

Maggie Timmermann will host a presentation on Tuesday, April 11, from 1:30 to 2:00 p.m. at the HealthPlex in Breese, to help women understand and overcome urinary incontinence. Timmermann is a licensed physical therapist with the HSHS St. Joseph’s Hospital Breese Rehab Department. She specializes in women and children and has more than 20 years of PT experience.

“Incontinence is embarrassing, inconvenient and stressful, but no one should feel alone or helpless. I offer help to the one in four women who deal with this issue – those who are afraid to sneeze, those constantly looking for the ladies’ room, and those who don’t always make it in time,” says Timmermann. “Millions suffer from leakage and frequency, but treatment through exercise and education can be very effective. No one should have to dread the punchline of a joke, or pass on a trip because they’re petrified of potholes!”

Timmermann will explain common causes of urinary incontinence, offer simple lifestyle changes that may help reduce symptoms, describe her rehab program available at the HealthPlex for cases requiring treatment, and answer questions.

Timmermann graduated with her Physical Therapy degree from Maryville University in St. Louis, and treats female urinary incontinence and pelvic pain using methods she learned studying at the Herman and Wallace Pelvic Rehab Institute in Oak Brook, Illinois.

“In addition to providing PT in Breese, Carlyle and New Baden, we are working to expand our services and to make the public aware of the specialties we already offer,” shares Susan Bickline, Rehab Director. “Maggie’s program has been extremely successful over the past ten years helping women ranging in age from 24 to 92 overcome urinary incontinence. She treated at least 50 women with this issue in 2016 alone.”

The April 11th presentation is free, but registration is requested. Call Gina at the HealthPlex at 526-5628 with your name, phone number and the number attending. If she is unavailable, please leave a message with the information.

The Women’s Continence program is considered a skilled physical therapy service and is generally covered by insurance. Please check with your provider for coverage details. For more information, or to make a Rehab appointment at the HealthPlex, call 526-5436.
