HSHS St. Joseph’s Hospital achieves five-star rating from Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services

(Breese, IL) – HSHS St. Joseph’s Hospital Breese has received a five-star rating from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), the top score in the federal agency’s ratings system.

According to CMS, the overall rating summarizes up to 57 quality measures, reflecting common conditions that hospitals treat, such as heart attacks or pneumonia. The overall rating shows how well each hospital performed, on average, compared to other hospitals in the country. HSHS St. Joseph’s Hospital Breese was one of just twenty hospitals in Illinois to receive five stars.

“We are very proud of our colleagues who work so hard to provide this level of care,” said Chris Klay, St. Joseph’s President and CEO. “While this rating represents a specific moment in time, I am confident that patients and their families will find we exceed their expectations every day.”

With a focus on providing the highest quality care, HSHS St. Joseph’s Hospital Breese has been the recipient of other accolades this year, including Press Ganey Pinnacle of Excellence Award in Patient Experience, and an elite designation of “Straight As” rating by the Leapfrog Group, held consecutively for the past five years.

“This five-star rating from CMS validates our continuous commitment to top tier patient care”, Klay said. “We continue to expand services to offer area residents high quality care close to home, as demonstrated by the recent opening of our new Outpatient Surgery Center. At St. Joseph’s, we are able to offer quality care combined with compassion, provided by the people you know and trust.”
