HSHS St. Joseph’s Hospital awarded Hospital Accreditation from the Joint Commission

(Breese, IL) – HSHS St. Joseph’s Hospital Breese announced it has earned The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval®  for its Hospital, Home Care, and Behavioral Health Care programs by demonstrating continuous compliance with its rigorous performance standards.  The Gold Seal of Approval® is a symbol of quality that reflects an organization’s commitment to providing safe and effective patient care.

St. Joseph’s underwent a rigorous, unannounced onsite review from May 14-17, 2019. During the visit, a team of Joint Commission reviewers evaluated compliance with Hospital, Home Care, and Behavioral Health Care standards spanning several areas including emergency management, environment of care, infection prevention and control, leadership, medication management, and rights and responsibilities of the individual.

The Joint Commission’s standards are developed in consultation with health care experts and providers, measurement experts and patients. They are informed by scientific literature and expert consensus to help health care organizations measure, assess and improve performance. The surveyors also conducted onsite observations and interviews.

“Joint Commission accreditation provides hospitals with the processes needed to improve in a variety of areas from the enhancement of staff education to the improvement of daily business operations,” said Mark G. Pelletier, RN, MS, chief operating officer, Division of Accreditation and Certification Operations, The Joint Commission. “In addition, our accreditation helps hospitals enhance their risk management and risk reduction strategies. We commend St. Joseph’s Hospital for its efforts to become a quality improvement organization.”

“St. Joseph’s Hospital is pleased to receive full accreditation from The Joint Commission, the premier health care quality improvement and accrediting body in the nation,” added Chris Klay, President and CEO of St. Joseph’s Hospital Breese. “This accreditation demonstrates continued collaboration between our medical staff and colleagues as they partner to provide the best care and service to our patients and communities.”
